While were were based at Mackay, Cyclone Hamish rolled in. Hamish was a pretty serious category 1 cyclone, but, fortunately, Mackay only caught the edge of it. We did have to lock everything down & send our aircraft away until the cyclone passed by.

We were staying at a resort on right on the coast, so I was able to get some nice shots of the bad weather coming in from the open ocean, and of the nice weather afterwards for comparison:

The frogs, insects, and other animals in Mackay are also pretty amazing. They don’t seem to care one jot about humans. The grasshoppers are the largest I’ve ever seen – huge, with spiky legs.
